It feels sad, bittersweet and nostalgic-a good way to describe the film overall. It's always portrayed as romantic ending up with a childhood friend/school sweetheart based on your shared history but at the end of the day, the person you're ending up with is not the person you're fondly remembering. I get why the main guy would feel sentimentality esp when he finally acknowledged his feelings for her and got the closure he needed from his dear friend.
